MikroTik & Network Setup
Set Up a MikroTik Router for a Hotspot
Start with a small, isolated hotspot network and validate the visitor journey before putting paying customers on it. RouterOS provides the /ip/hotspot/setup wizard; AutoXpon Billing can provision an approved router through its Router Wizard after the network prerequisites are understood.
Pre-flight checklist
- Confirm the WAN connection works and record how it receives internet access: DHCP, static addressing, or PPPoE.
- Use a dedicated LAN, VLAN, or bridge for hotspot clients; do not put a public/WAN interface in that bridge.
- Connect to the router by Ethernet or MAC-based management before changing interfaces, so you do not strand the administration session.
- Decide the client IP range, DHCP service, DNS behaviour, captive-portal name, and the authentication/billing method before enabling access.
Configure and validate
- Create or select the dedicated client interface/bridge and set up its IP addressing and DHCP service.
- Run /ip/hotspot/setup for that interface, entering values that match the planned client network.
- Connect a clean test device. Confirm it receives an address, is redirected to the sign-in page, cannot bypass authentication, and can reach the permitted post-login destination.
- Only then connect the router to AutoXpon Billing, select the Hotspot profile, run the generated provisioning script, and repeat the test with a real test account or voucher.
